Kiaat Ensemble

The Kiaat Ensemble takes its name from a tree of Southern Africa, known for is unique structure, hardiness, seeds and musical qualities. Using the metaphor of trees, seeds and growth the Kiaat Ensemble is an exploration into the sense and spirit of place, growth in a place, migration and displacement.

An organic self interrogation set to the repetitive grooves of the kalimba and elaborated through improvisation.

Inspired by the time spent in the apprenticeship of the late Smiles Makama.

Kiaat Ensemble is sometimes large and sometimes solo
